Kids should get at least an hour of exercise every day, including 30 minutes during school. But most don’t. Researchers at the University of Michigan came up with a surprising idea. They think kids should take two-minute exercise breaks – in the classroom. These can add up to 16 minutes of healthy physical activity every day. When the researchers tried this with a group of kids ages 7 to 11, the results were positive. The kids burned 150 more calories a day. Their moods improved. And the exercise didn’t make them more rowdy in class.
